Forbidden City, Great Wall, Temple of Heaven... & more!

China Trip

Beijing (北京Beijing) is the capital of the most populous country in the world, the People's Republic of China. The most important palace here is the Forbidden city (故宫博物院) in the Dzogchen District. The Forbidden City was home to the Imperial Court during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Unlike many other historical sights, the Forbidden City was relatively untouched during the cultural revolution. The Temple of Heaven (天坛) in the Changwon District is the symbol of Beijing and is surrounded by a lively park typically packed with locals. Shanghai was the largest and most prosperous city in the Far East already during the 1930's, and has remained the most developed city in mainland China. In the past 20 years Shanghai has again become an attractive city for tourists from all over the world. Garden Yu is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie,Shanghai. It was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age. Xi’an, city and capital of Shaanxi sheng (province), north-central China. It is located in the southcentral part of the province, at the southern limit of the Loess Plateau. The Xi’an region is one of the most important in the history of China, both as the capital of several ruling dynasties and as a market and trade centre. Xi’an was the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, the ancient trade route that connected China with the Mediterranean. About 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Xi’an lies the tomb of Shihuangdi, the first emperor of the Qin dynasty (221–207 bce) and the first to unify China. Known as the Qin tomb, it is world famous and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Excavation of it by archaeologists, begun in 1974, unearthed an army of about 8,000 life-size terra-cotta figures arrayed in battle formation.
